We are almost all aware of workers compensation and the benefits that it offers to employees. It can provide you with compensation for wages lost, permanent loss of function and some scarring. But does workers compensation only apply if you have been physically injured? What if your injury is that of a nervous breakdown? What if a pre-existing condition causes you to suffer a heart attack or a stroke at work?
In the state of Massachusetts the law provides that you and your family may be able to receive compensation even if the injury is the result of a pre-existing condition, or if something that has happened on your job has caused you mental and emotional distress. That being the case, if you have been injured at work you should contact a legal advisor as soon as possible so that you can be properly represented. If your claim is successful the insurance company will usually cover your legal fees.
If you do receive compensation the law does limit how long you may receive these benefits. In our state of Massachusetts the maximum you may receive partial and total benefits is seven years. For more information click here to read more on our Worker’s Compensation page.
